I’m Isaac Saul, and this is Tangle: an independent, nonpartisan, subscriber-supported politics newsletter that summarizes the best arguments from across the political spectrum on the news of the day — then “my take.” Hey everyone, I’m writing with a few important updates on how you are receiving Tangle in your inbox. Changes from Apple’s email app, artificial intelligence, and Google are impacting whether you can see our work or not. If you use Apple mail, you need to make a quick change so Tangle doesn’t show up in your “Updates” folder. If you want the full newsletter to go to your main inbox, do this once: On iPhone/iPad (iOS 18.2+): - Go to any Tangle email (even if it’s in Updates).
- Slide to the left, click “more,” categorize sender, choose primary, click continue.
- You're done. Thanks!
On Mac (macOS Sequoia 15.4+): Open a Tangle email, hover over our sender name (“Tangle”) and click the little drop-down arrow → Categorize Sender → Primary.
Whatever platform you are using, it is really important to mark Tangle as a safe sender, important sender, preferred sender, or to add us to your contacts. Simply replying to an email or starring an email is also a helpful trick.

This will ensure we keep showing up in your inbox even as tech companies add AI roundup features that summarize and organize our emails without our input. In another major change, Google is now also allowing you to pick “preferred sources” for when you search news. If you go Google something right now, next to the “Top stories” you’ll notice an icon: You can click that icon and then type in “Tangle” and make it a preferred source; that way, when you search for something, we’ll be more likely to show up in the results. These changes might seem small to you, but as an independent media organization, they’re vital to us. If our audience doesn’t adapt, these major platforms will prevent us from reaching the people we want to — so we appreciate you helping us remain competitive. Best, Isaac and the Tangle team
