Wild Ramps!

This early spring relative of the onion family – otherwise known as "Wild Onions" – are a true seasonal delicacy. The flavor is all in the greens, although the roots are good too. They can be incorporated into various meals: eggs, rice dishes, pastas, simply sautéed, or even turned into a pesto.

Wild Ramps are a native plant. Chicago was actually known by the Native Americans as "Shikaakwa," which translates to "wild onion" – and yes, that is how we got our name!

The wild ramps we have at the store were sustainably harvested from the woods of Spence Farm in Fairbury, Illinois.

Local Farm Feature

Kilgus Farmstead

Located in Fairbury, Illinois, Kilgus Farmstead is a pasture dairy operation that milks Jersey cows. Jerseys produce higher levels of A2. This means they produce a product that is easier to digest for those who have experienced issues when consuming other dairy products.

Have you tried any of the Kilgus Farmstead dairy products yet? We highly recommend the Heavy Cream!
