European Union and Brazil sign Digital Partnership

On 12 June 2026, the European Union and Brazil announced that they are set to sign the Digital Partnership in Brasilia. The Digital Partnership would strengthen cooperation on data governance, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and connectivity, online platforms, and digital public goods and services. Following the signing, the Commission's services and Brazil's National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) would sign a separate administrative agreement on cooperation on the protection of minors online. The Digital Partnership would be implemented through regular high-level exchanges and dedicated technical workstreams. The first meeting of the Digital Partnership Council, which would provide strategic direction and endorse a joint cooperation roadmap, is expected within 12 months of the signing. The Digital Partnership builds on mutual adequacy decisions adopted by the EU and Brazil in January 2026, which allow businesses, public authorities, and researchers to exchange data freely between the two jurisdictions.
