| Outline Consultation Closed | Data Governance
On 5 August 2026, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) closes the consultation on the common template for data breach notifications. The template aims to harmonise the structure of notifications across the European Union and assist organisations in meeting the requirements of Article 33 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). By providing predefined options and guidance, the initiative intends to reduce time and resource costs for controllers, particularly smaller organisations without dedicated legal staff. The template includes sections for identifying data controllers, describing the nature and circumstances of the breach, and assessing the risks to the rights and freedoms of natural persons. It also covers technical measures taken to mitigate adverse effects and prevent future incidents. Following the closure of the consultation period, the EDPB will determine the timeline for the practical implementation of the template by national Data Protection Authorities (DPAs).
