Rat Birth Control Community Info and Volunteer Session

SSA 60 will be launching a Rat Birth Control Program to help reduce the local rat population by deploying and monitoring rat-control stations in select areas throughout the SSA. The stations are designed to reduce the rate at which rats reproduce, helping to manage the rat population over time.

We will be hosting a community info session to provide more information about the program, answer questions, and recruit volunteers. Please keep an eye out for upcoming meeting details!

What is Rat Birth Control?

Rat Birth Control (RBC) is a humane way to reduce the rat population. Plant-based "sausages" are placed inside bait boxes, and the cottonseed oil inside the RBC reduces fertility in both male and female rats. The process will not produce results overnight; instead, with consistent feeding, the rat population will decrease over the course of months.

To answer a question on many people's minds: animals such as rabbits, cats, dogs, birds, and coyotes will not be harmed by RBC.

How can you get involved?

We are building a team of volunteers to help us deploy the RBC. We truly cannot do this alone!

This pilot project will span the alleyways on Lawrence Ave between Central Park Ave and Spaulding Ave. The more volunteers we have, the easier and more effective this process will be!
