Bettye LaVette

THIS THURSDAY! The third show in a FREE four-part summer series presented by Old Town School's Community Ventures initiative Music Moves in partnership with the Chicago Park District. Based on Nina Simone's 1966 classic jazz composition Four Women, the project explores Simone's four women in dialogue with four feminine Orisha figures from the Afro Cuban Lucumí tradition. 

This 60 minute performance features incredible work from Chicago-based visual artists, composers, choreographers, and dancers who have come together to produce a spectacular show specific to the Cuatro Mujeres series.

This event series is a part of Chicago Park District's Night Out in the Parks.

The Dream Syndicate

When the Dream Syndicate emerged in the early 80s, frontman Steve Wynn declared that “we’re playing music we want to hear because nobody else is doing it.” Their template of Velvet Underground meets Crazy Horse, with raw twin guitar, bass, and drums was not common during an era when slick, polished MTV bands ruled. The band were, and remain, uncompromising.
