Stark Bierfest Stammtisch

After the revelry of Fasching comes the quiet of Lent—and with it, the Bavarian tradition of Starkbier. First brewed by the 17th century Paulaner monk Salvator to sustain his fasting brothers, this strong, nourishing beer remains a seasonal favorite across Bavaria. Join us at our Starkbier Fest Stammtisch as we raise a glass to this centuries old tradition.

Max Schmeling

Max Schmeling, German boxing legend of the 1920s and 30s, was caught between the America's boxing world and Nazi Germany's propaganda. Famous for his two legendary fights against Joe Louis in 1936 and 1938—often called Hitler’s “Superman” in the press—Schmeling proved to be his own man both in the ring and throughout his long life.

Opens April 4th
We’re inviting the community to help bring the 1980s to life by lending or donating items connected to German music, fashion, and youth culture!
Items could include:
- Records, cassettes, CDs, or memorabilia from German artists of the 80s
- Concert posters, ticket stubs, magazines, or photos
- Clothing worn in the 80s or Neue Deutsche Welle artist items
- Video games or consoles from the era
- Any other personal items reflecting your life, style, or music tastes in the 80s

The ÖSD KID A1 and A2 (for children and young learners ages 10-14) exams assess German language skills in everyday situations, covering reading, listening, writing, and speaking with a focus on practical communication.

The evening will feature a traditional Fahnenparade and Krönungsfeier, the BSV 2026 Invitational Awards, live music by Band Paloma, and catering by Himmel’s. Join in for a festive night honoring tradition, community, and celebration!

Celebrate culture and tradition with the Chicago Donauschwaben! Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with appetizers at 6:00 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy dancing to the music of “Phenix.” Guests are encouraged to wear Tracht or German costume to enhance the festive atmosphere.
