In 2026, AI is now forming a robot HR army that is making decisions before you can even say “unemployed”. |
But it doesn’t stop there. |
From the moment you apply to a job, to how you work once you’re hired, and to your next work venture after that, AI is going to be there for the ride. |
So, here’s what you need to know about how AI is being used in HR. |
Resume screening |
Most companies use an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to filter resumes. |
Tools like Greenhouse or Lever pull in applications, and then start ranking them. |
That means: |
your resume is scanned for keywords your experience is matched to the job description you can be filtered out automatically

What to know: If your resume doesn’t clearly match the role, you might not make it past the first pass, even if you’re qualified. |
The fix? Use AI to your advantage to maximise your chances: “Based on this job description, what keywords and skills would an ATS prioritize, and how can I align my resume to match them?” |
AI-assisted interviews |
Some companies now use AI in early interviews, like HireVue. |
This can include: |

What to know: You’re being evaluated on what you say and how you say it. |
If possible, ask for a live conversation: “I’d love to connect with someone on the team as well.” |
Either way, keep answers clear and structured (context → action → result). In a way, respond in a similar way to how you would imagine AI to give you an output to a question. |
Writing detection |
If you’re using AI to help write your application, some companies are trying to detect that (tools like Turnitin). |
What to know: “AI-y” generic answers can work against you, even when the AI may favor answers it can understand better. |
Yes, it’s weird - you’re using AI to get past AI, while trying not to sound like AI. |
At this point, the move is simple: use it, then edit it back into your voice as much as possible. |
On-the-job monitoring |
Once you’re hired, AI doesn’t go away. |
Some HR teams are using tools like Time Doctor or Hubstaff to track: |

AI is looking for patterns, not potential. It's great at matching keywords, not always great at understanding nuance, career pivots, or unconventional paths. If your background isn’t linear, connect the dots for it. |
The system is optimized for efficiency. AI is designed to save time, not give every candidate a fair chance (more like a fat chance). |
How to work with it (without overthinking it) |
Mirror the job description: Use the same language (if it’s true). This makes your experience easier to recognize. Use AI — but don’t sound like AI: Great for structure and ideas. Just make sure it still sounds like you before you submit. Know the context: Know when they are using AI to evaluate you, and when/how you should use AI to meet that. Be specific: Vague doesn’t land. Clear, measurable examples do. Assume your work device isn’t private: Keep personal use separate and understand what your company tracks.
