| | | | | OPENAI | | | OpenAI has launched GPT-6 in ChatGPT, introducing faster responses and a new feature called Intelligent UI to change how its 1.2 billion weekly users interact with the chatbot. | Intelligent UI allows ChatGPT to create interactive answers using charts, maps, diagrams, buttons and custom tools directly within conversations. | For example, users can adjust a shopping list based on how many guests they're hosting, explore complex topics through interactive visuals or create a calculator without leaving the chat. | Rather than giving every question the same text-based response, GPT-6 can now decide which format works best. | OpenAI says it trained the model to organise information, choose when interactive features would be useful and recognise when a straightforward answer is enough. | GPT-6 also introduces a change to how ChatGPT responds. Previously, users had to wait for reasoning models to finish thinking before receiving an answer. | Now, ChatGPT can start responding while it continues working, gradually adding information as it goes. | OpenAI also highlighted several improvements: | GPT-6 Instant starts answering questions requiring web searches 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant, according to OpenAI's internal measurements. Internal tests show GPT-6 performs better on difficult web searches, with improvements in finding relevant information and addressing users' questions. OpenAI reports better protection against harmful requests, improved resistance to attempts to bypass safeguards and clearer communication about what the model can and cannot do.
| Pimp My Prompt | GPT-6 with Intelligent UI begins rolling out globally to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users today, followed by Free and Go users tomorrow. | The update applies to regular ChatGPT conversations, while the models powering Work and Codex remain unchanged. | I give it three weeks before it starts asking about the feng shui of my prompts.- MG |

| | | | | AI SCIENCE | | | AI research conferences are struggling with a massive rise in paper submissions. | The International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR), one of AI’s biggest conferences, received around 500 papers a decade ago. | For its 2027 event, that number has climbed to over 40,000. | The rise comes from growing interest in AI, pressure to publish research, and AI tools making papers quicker to write. | But there’s one big problem: conferences rely on researchers to review each other’s work, and there aren't enough qualified people to keep up. | Other organisations are also making changes: | NeurIPS is cracking down on poor-quality reviews and requiring researchers to finish their assigned reviews before seeing feedback on their own work. AI-written papers are still allowed because AI detectors aren't reliable enough, and researchers haven't agreed on how much AI use is acceptable. arXiv, a popular research-sharing platform, is limiting authors to two papers per month after receiving over 40,000 submissions in September, nearly double the number from two years ago.
| The world's least enjoyable book club | To manage the workload, ICLR and the Association for Computational Linguistics’ Rolling Review (ARR) system are bringing in new rules. | Both are limiting most authors to 20 papers per submission period, while ARR will use a lottery to decide which papers without qualified reviewers get reviewed. | The goal is to cut down on low-quality submissions and give reviewers a more manageable workload. | However, some researchers worry the limits could make things harder for younger academics or fail to solve the bigger problem. | AI is out there writing every student’s thesis. - MV |

Business: Samsung has forecast record third-quarter profits of around $80 billion, fuelled by booming AI memory chip demand, even as rising component costs put pressure on its smartphone business.
Music: Zara Larsson says she has no plans to collaborate with hitmaker Max Martin, preferring to work with producers who give her more creative freedom despite her admiration for his success. | Don’t Miss: Microsoft has secured a deal to stream Grand Theft Auto VI through Xbox Cloud Gaming when the game launches in November. However, Xbox has clarified that the deal is not exclusive and won't include PC streaming, suggesting access may be limited to Xbox consoles. |
