This workshop at Evanston Public Library introduces green screen filmmaking and basic editing techniques for middle school students. Participants will learn how to shoot footage, create visual effects, and start working with green screen tools as part of the library’s Film It! programming.

This outdoor family program from the Ecology Center, Evanston Public Library, and the Evanston Early Childhood Council combines live animals, music, and nature play at city parks. Kids 8 and under can sing along with musicians from Old Town School of Folk Music and explore activities centered on the natural world.

Evanston’s Fourth of July celebration begins with morning games at 9:00 AM across five locations and tennis finals at 8:00 AM at Ackerman Park. The kids’ fun run starts at 12:45 PM, followed by the parade at 2:00 PM, a 7:30 PM concert by the Palatine Concert Band at Dawes Park, and 9:30 PM lakefront fireworks. 
Thursday, July 9Downtown Summer Sounds with the Trabuco Salsa BandTime: 5:30 PM Cost: Free Location: Fountain Square
Downtown Evanston’s summer concert series returns for nine Thursday evenings of live outdoor music at Fountain Square, featuring local and regional bands alongside nonprofit partners and select Thursday Night Markets. The opening night on July 9 features Trabuco Salsa Band, with a free salsa lesson at 5:30 PM before the 6:00 PM concert, plus food vendors, drinks, and children’s art activities on site. 
July 11 - 19Evanston Plein Air FestivalTime: Varies Cost: Free Location: Various locations in Evanston
Evanston Made’s Plein Air Festival is a weeklong citywide painting event featuring outdoor paint outs, artist receptions, classes, a block party, and a final outdoor art market. Events take place at locations across Evanston, with artists creating work on site and award ceremonies following several paint outs throughout the week.
