A beginner-friendly workshop for those looking to build on the basics after Sewing Machine 101 or get a refresher. Participants will learn machine setup, threading, and bobbin winding before exploring different stitches, including straight, zig-zag, and embroidery. Read It and Meet Book Club meetings are each led by a guest host, a different leader or personality from the Evanston community, who chooses the book to be discussed and leads the conversation. The goal is to gather a book-loving community, meet people behind the scenes or in the spotlight, and engage in thoughtful conversation about a meaningful work of literature or nonfiction. The March meeting will feature The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World by Robin Wall Kimmerer, selected by Kim Vigue, Executive Director of the Gichicagamiin Indigenous Nations Museum. Vigue chose the book for its exploration of Indigenous scientific knowledge and its alignment with the museum’s mission. The discussion will begin with a short book talk from Vigue, followed by an open conversation.

This beginner guitar workshop introduces the CAGED system, a simple way to navigate the fretboard. Built around five basic chord shapes—C, A, G, E, and D—the system helps players connect chords, scales, and melodies across the neck.
