Hello Market Friends!

We’re just getting into the heart of July, and the market is beginning to overflow with the sweet, sun-ripened tastes of summer. Blueberries and black raspberries made their first appearance last week, adding a burst of deep color and natural sweetness to the produce tables.

We spotted the first of the apricots last week, and now we’ve got our fingers crossed that peaches will be arriving soon! In the meantime, the market is full of other summertime favorites: sweet cherries, summer peas, potatoes, eggplant, carrots, cauliflower, green beans, and more.

Whether you’re meal planning, snacking, or just enjoying a stroll through the market, there’s always something fresh and exciting to discover. See you this week!

🍓 Vendor Spotlight: Mick Klug Farms

If you’ve been coming to the Lincoln Square Farmers Market for a while, then you already know Mick Klug Farms—a beloved vendor who’s been with us for over 40 years!

Based in Michigan and rooted in tradition, the farm was founded in 1930 by Clara and Edward Klug and has been proudly passed down through the family ever since. Today, it's run by the third generation, continuing a legacy of quality, community, and care.

One of their most popular offerings? Strawberries! They're the very first fruit harvested each season and a long-time favorite among market shoppers—grown with pride and packed with flavor.

Mick Klug Farms is also Environmentally Verified by the State of Michigan, a designation that highlights their commitment to sustainable growing practices and protecting natural resources.

For the Klug family, the market is more than just a place to sell—it’s where lasting relationships are built. And when they’re not behind the table, you might just catch them picking up a fresh bouquet of flowers from a neighboring booth!

Stop by Mick Klug Farms this week and enjoy a taste of tradition that’s been ripening for generations.

🥗 The Recipe Box: Side Dishes That Stole the Show

Over the holiday weekend, we were treated to some incredible side dishes that celebrated the best of summer produce—and honestly, they may have upstaged the main course!

First up: Crispy Potato Salad. This isn't your average picnic fare. With smashed potatoes roasted to golden perfection, then tossed in a tangy mustard vinaigrette, this dish brought crunch, flavor, and major crowd appeal. Try it here

We also couldn’t get enough of the Pan con Tomate, a Spanish classic that packed serious tomato intensity with just a few ingredients. Perfectly toasted bread rubbed with garlic and topped with ripe, juicy tomatoes—simple, rustic, and unforgettable. Here’s the recipe.

And finally, a sleeper hit: Iced Kohlrabi with Spiced Salt, inspired by Amy Thielen’s The New Midwestern Table. Raw kohlrabi, sliced thin and chilled over ice, then dipped in a mix of salt, coriander, fennel, and a hint of cayenne. Refreshing, crisp, and a perfect reminder that the simplest dishes can be the most memorable.

Have a market-inspired recipe you’d love to share? Send it our way—we’re always looking to feature local flavor in The Recipe Box!
