The Supreme Court term is over, but the fight it set in motion is just beginning.
In a matter of months, the justices gutted what was left of the Voting Rights Act and greenlit Republican gerrymandering for the midterms. They reaffirmed birthright citizenship — but just barely. They cleared the way for Trump to purge the independent agencies built to run on expertise, not loyalty.
And in one of the biggest voting cases of the term — in a lawsuit my law firm helped fight — we held the line and protected hundreds of thousands of voters from having their mail-in ballots discarded.
I'm relieved by some of it, worried about the rest and I know you have questions about what it all means.
At 6:30 p.m. ET, I'll be live on Zoom with three people who didn't just watch this term from the outside. Janai Nelson argued Callais before the Court herself. Cody Wofsy led the ACLU's fight to defend birthright citizenship. And Joyce Vance spent decades as a federal prosecutor and knows these cases inside and out.
I won't pretend this moment isn't frightening. But I've seen what happens when we fight — and over and over, we win. Tonight, you'll have a team of pro-democracy lawyers in your corner, ready for what comes next.
You won't want to miss out on this members-only live event — upgrade before 6:30 p.m. ET to secure your seat. Can't make it? We'll send the recording to anyone who signs up.
Whether or not you're able to join, we appreciate you being part of the Democracy Docket community.
