These Times Demand Bold Ideas. Support The Nation.

Dear Friend of The Nation,

Tomorrow is the last day of The Nation’s June fundraising campaign. Our ambitious goal of $20,000 is actually within reach, but we need a big push from supporters like you to get there.

If there’s ever a time to support journalism that’s as outraged as you are and can actually sort through all the chaos, it’s right now. Don’t wait—donate today.

Help Us Reach Our Goal

A few months ago, I argued that the signature failing of both the Supreme Court and the mainstream media is their insistence on treating Trump and the entire MAGA movement like it’s all normal. I was thinking about how it was simply not normal to have masked federal agents murdering people in the streets, for the government to create concentration camps out of Big Lots warehouses, or for our unhinged president to assassinate and abduct foreign leaders.

Now, on top of all that, I’m thinking about how insane it is that Trump has just created a white grievance reparations fund—paid for with our tax dollars—to compensate January 6 insurrectionists.

I’m assuming that the Republican supermajority on the Supreme Court is going to let Trump get his way. That’s because the Supreme Court isn’t just passively letting this all happen—they’re active perpetrators in Trump’s assault on America.

Case in point: thanks to the court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais, which eviscerated the Voting Rights Act, Republicans are aggressively moving to eliminate Black voting power in red states by quickly redrawing voting maps ahead of November’s midterm elections.

The Nation is one of the vanishingly few publications that doesn’t treat this like it’s normal or okay. We don’t mince words or launder the interests of capitulating billionaires.

Whether it’s columns like Sasha Abramsky’s Authoritarian Watch, Chuck Collins’ Oligarch Watch, Katrina vanden Heuvel’s examination of Trump’s assault on the daily lives of cash-strapped families across the country, or my own columns and newsletters analyzing the court cases and legal strategies that are shaping our moment (usually for the worse), The Nation calls it like it really is.

Your donation today goes toward journalism that doesn’t sanewash Trump or his court, and doesn’t pretend we’re living in a fictitious world in which this is the normal course of democracy. We urgently need your support to call out all the ways that he and his cronies are openly trying to rig the midterms in their race to the racist bottom. Please, donate today.
