Lunar New Year Parade & Celebration February 21st

Join Uptown United and the local business, non-profit, and cultural organizations as we continue the annual tradition going back 40+ years of celebrating the Lunar New Year along the Argyle Commercial corridor in Uptown! To welcome the Year of the Horse, we'll be hosting the Lunar New Year Parade on Saturday, February 21st (kick-off at 1:00pm sharp at Argyle & Sheridan) featuring 30+ local community groups, cultural institutions, dancers and performers! In addition, a number of local organizations are planning pop-ups with family-friendly activities between 10:30am-4:00pm. If you're planning on joining the celebrations, you can RSVP for free and enter in a prize drawing from Argyle businesses! You can also win prizes by finding a lucky envelope in a select number of red envelopes that are handed out to customers at participating businesses starting on Saturday, February 21st!

Note that towing & road closures are in effect for the parade and post-parade performances. Click here for full details for road closures and parking restrictions along Broadway, Sheridan, Argyle, Winona, Ainslie, Kenmore, and Winthrop.

To celebrate the Year of the Horse, we'll be hosting miniature horses Lunar and Charmer from Soul Harbour Ranch Animal Therapy Program along with members of the US Hobby Horse Championships team! Families can also participate in a horse-themed story time and craft at the Bezazian Library ahead of the parade at 10:30 or 11:30am. Don't miss local business activations along the corridor, including a small business vendor market at both Uni Uni and Haibayo from 11am-4pm. Check out the full list of event activities here!

Sarah's Circle's 34th annual Winter Walk: A Mile in Her Shoes highlights the harsh reality of women's homelessness during the deadly cold of Chicago's winters. Your support can make the difference between a woman struggling to survive alone on the street and a woman who is safe and warm in her own bed. Funds raised through Winter Walk are critical in meeting the demand of Sarah's Circle's services. Winter Walk is on March 8th, International Women's Day, making it a great opportunity to celebrate and support women!

SMOL-OLL is hosting their First Annual Dinner Dance with tickets that include dinner, drink tickets, live music, a silent auction, and one entry into the grand prize raffle for $5,000 in cash.

For those that can't attend but would still like to join the raffle, $50 raffle-only tickets are also available!

Some of the operations supported by the event include their Laundry Ministry, which supports volunteer efforts to collect and clean clothing each week from unhoused LGBTQ+ youth and their weekly soup kitchen which is open to all in the community for a meal and community conversation.
