Stay Informed During a Tornado
Skokie Police and Fire maintain a state of readiness for tornadoes, severe weather and other emergencies. You should be ready, too!
When a Tornado Warning is issued for a geographic area that includes any portion of Skokie:
-
The Village’s outdoor emergency warning sirens will automatically activate. The sirens are intended primarily to alert people who are outdoors to take appropriate safety action.
-
The Village’s Smart911 emergency alert system will send the NWS alert to all subscribers by text message, email and/or phone call based on their notification preferences.
If a Tornado Warning is issued: Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoid windows. If you are in a vehicle or outdoors, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
Sign up for Skokie Smart911 to receive important emergency notifications, including tornado warnings, evacuation orders, boil orders and critical police and fire activity.
