Lower Your Electric Bill with a Free Shade Tree
|
Well-placed shade trees—especially on the south and west sides of your home—can cut cooling costs by reducing how often your air conditioner runs.
Request a tree: Through the Village’s free parkway tree program, you can request a tree to help lower your summer electric bills while adding beauty and value to your property.
Process: After a quick site inspection to ensure there’s adequate space free of utility conflicts, approved trees are planted this fall or next spring, and you’ll get to choose from several attractive options.

West Nile Virus Detected in Skokie Mosquitoes
|
he North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD) has confirmed the presence of West Nile virus positive mosquitoes in Skokie and other area communities. The current West Nile virus risk level is moderate, and is gradually increasing across the region.
Protect yourself: Take the following precautions to fight the bite:
|
- Use an EPA-registered mosquito repellent when outdoors
- Wear long sleeves and pants, especially during dawn and dusk
- Eliminate standing water on your property (such as buckets, birdbaths, toys and clogged gutters)
-
Contact NSMAD for assistance with large areas of standing water
|
West Nile virus is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. While most infected individuals experience mild or no symptoms, the virus can cause serious illness in some people.
Reduce mosquito activity: Request a free property inspection and other mosquito abatement services provided by the NSMAD.
