Know your farmer, know where your food came from. There are just six weeks left to enjoy your favorite farmers market. Let's show up for these farmers and vendors as they have for us all season long. 

Happy Fall! A big THANK YOU to all who came out to the soggy market last Sunday. We are grateful for you!

Due to last week's rains, we will have sweet corn this Sunday but in a limited supply. You will start to see mums, squash and all the fall harvest goodies at the market.

Let's talk tomatoes! Every farmer has an abundance of tomatoes this time of the year. Cook them, can them, snack on them. There is simply nothing better than a farm-fresh tomato.

This Sunday is our Makers Market. Please make sure to check out 15+ vendors that will be located in the Village Green — the green space between the farmers market and Skokie Public Library. 

Please check out our vendor list below. We do our best to keep it updated but there are last-minute changes. This time of the year, we have vendors leaving us for the season and new ones coming on board. 

If you're looking for a specific vendor at the market and can't find them, please stop by the green Skokie Farmers' Market tent and market staff will point you in the right direction.

Market Reminders

Get more with Link / Match! For each dollar deducted from your Link card at the Market (you will receive a Link Token), you will also receive $25 in matching funds (Link Match Voucher). To learn more about this program, please check out the Link Up Illinois website.

What can I buy with tokens / SNAP? Fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, dairy, baked goods, snack foods, seeds and plants.

What can I buy with the green Link / Match vouchers? Fruits, vegetables, mushrooms and plants.

Go to the green Skokie Farmers' Market tent located on the Oakton Street side of the market to use your Link card. 

The Commission on Family Services will be at the market this Sunday to collect non-perishable food and toiletries. Bring your donations to the green tent at the main entrance to the market between 9 a.m. and noon. All food items will be taken to our neighbors at the Niles Township Food Pantry. Let's continue to support our community. 

Starting this Sunday, we are collecting Halloween costumes. Please label the costumes with the size and type of costume — this is very important!

Bring the costumes to the green Skokie Farmers' Market tent located on the Oakton Street side of the market. Costumes will be given to kiddos in our community as well as in the surrounding area. We want to make sure every kiddo has a costume this year.

In need of a costume for your kiddo? Starting Sunday, October 4, all donated costumes will be in bins at the green Skokie Farmers' Market tent.

Winter Market on Main returns on Sunday, December 13.  Enjoy all your Winter Market favorites along with s'mores at our Winter Market location at 4051 Main St., Skokie. The vendor list will be out by the beginning of November.

Ingredients

1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes (about 2 cups)

1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

2 sticks (8 ounces) unsalted butter, at room temperature

Instructions

Arrange an oven rack about 3 to 4 inches from the broiler element and heat the oven to broil. Place the tomatoes on a rimmed baking sheet and broil until the skins begin to brown and the tomatoes start releasing their juice, 6 to 8 minutes. Let the tomatoes cool to room temperature.

Combine the broiled tomatoes, thyme, salt, and pepper in a food processor fitted with the blade attachment. Pulse about 10 times, until the tomatoes are finely chopped. Cut the butter into 1-inch cubes and add it to the food processor. Process until the butter is completely mixed in with the tomato mixture, about 30 seconds, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed for even blending.

The tomato butter can be used immediately or placed in the refrigerator for a couple of hours to firm up first.
