Hey ,

Hope you had a great weekend. It was suuuper hot in LA, could’ve used some short-shorts…

This one is from Chubbies (not a client).

This one starts with the line: “So the brand Chubbies has challenged me to a short off…”

I love it because it admits it’s an ad.

Most UGC these days pretends to be kinda off-the-cuff but viewers are getting more and more aware that it’s sponsored. This one leans into it. By being upfront (“Chubbies asked me to do this”), it actually feels somehow more authentic.

And the format of “they sent me a bunch of short-shorts and they’re going to see if I’ll wear them…” is a lot more interesting than, “I love my new shorts from Chubbies, check them out.”

It turns it into a game and you want to stick around to how it ends.

It also solves a real buying problem. If you’ve ever shopped for shorts online, you’ve probably wondered: “what does a 7” inseam look like vs a 6”?? Which should I buy??” This ad shows you.

UGC still works but you need to mix it up and try new concepts.
