SIDEWALK SAFETY: GEOFENCING SHERIDAN ROAD

Dear Neighbors,

Sheridan Road is one of the densely populated streets in Chicago, and home to a number of vulnerable populations including older adults. Pedestrian safety on Sheridan Road is a top priority of our office, and we are collaborating with neighbors, community leaders, and CDOT on a number of initiatives to slow down cars, create pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and organize our streets to improve safety for all users.

To prevent scooter/pedestrian conflict and improve safety for everyone using Sheridan Road, we coordinated with CDOT to expand the existing geofenced no-ride zone for shared e-scooters to include Sheridan Road sidewalks between Devon Avenue and Bryn Mawr Avenue. This change was implemented to address community concerns about frequent sidewalk riding along Sheridan.

We recently made big investments in our nearby Kenmore/Winthrop Greenways, which run parallel to Sheridan Road, and we encourage everyone riding bikes and scooters to use these Greenways as they navigate to/from the Lakefront Trail.

Our office continues to coordinate with CDOT to bring a geofence e-bike pilot to Sheridan Road sidewalks between Ardmore and Devon. Read more about our pedestrian safety work on Sheridan here

WHERE IN THE WARD IS LENI?

Thanks to this class from Knox College for stopping by the 48th Ward office during their tour of the neighborhood last week! These students spend part of their summer living in Chicago where they learn about the city, get familiarized with public transit, and intern with city companies and agencies. We were so glad to be a stop on their trip and learn about what they're studying.
Last week, the Legislative Reference Bureau (LRB) invited everyone interning with the City of Chicago this summer to tour the River Walk and hear from a panel of representatives from various city offices. Angel and Genesis tagged along to connect with staff from other aldermanic offices and city departments!
Ainslie Winmore Block Club was just one group that joined Uptown Action 46 at the monthly last Saturday park clean ups at Buttercup and Margate Park. THANK YOU TO ORGANIZERS and to ALL who work together regularly to help make our public spaces more welcoming for all.
Thanks to Uptown United and the Edgewater Uptown Builders Association (EUBA) for having us at your recent networking event at Piacere Mio Uptown! The event was an opportunity for housing providers, business, and community organizations in Edgewater and Uptown to get to know one another over drinks and snacks while enjoying the beautiful summer weather.
