39th Historic House Walk

Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society is back with their 39th Historic House Walk. This walk features homes that reflect the experimental spirit of the turn of the 20th Century, in a neighborhood you'll want to explore.
Creative architects and engineers who broke centuries-old architectural norms made Chicago the innovative leader of the skyscraper age.
In the neighborhoods, prosperous residents who spent workdays in modern new buildings sought similarly innovative houses. The homes of Armstrong Circle are a living tribute to the architectural creativity of the period.

16-year-old Dot still hasn’t gotten her period. Lucky for her, there’s a Witch in the woods who can get it started. However, in exchange, Dot must offer her the life of a man who has wronged her. And who better to offer than a math teacher? When Dot gets her elusive first period and becomes witness to the Witch’s murder, they become bonded in literal blood, sending Dot down a path of self-understanding, bitterness, and perhaps a little bit of violence too (as a treat). The Sporting Life is a ‘this girl is a woman now’ story brutally snapped open to expose the, sometimes literal, entrails of growing up girl.

In the 49th Ward, the 24th District patrols nine Beats. Each patrol Beat in the Chicago Police Department hosts monthly or bi-monthly community Beat meetings. The primary purpose of the Beat community meetings is to allow Beat residents, other community stakeholders and police to discuss chronic problems on the Beat and to engage in problem-solving. Beat community meetings provide an opportunity for police and community residents to exchange information about conditions in the neighborhood.
