OpenAI announced more than 20 products and features at DevDay today. By my count, no DevDay since the first one in 2023 has come close. Together, they make OpenAI’s plan plain: ChatGPT as the operating system for your work, with agents, documents, and other companies’ apps all running inside it.
I’ve tested the biggest launches for the past few days. Some of them have already changed how I work. A lot of it doesn’t work reliably yet.
- Dots, OpenAI’s always-on agents, became my main way to use ChatGPT. Mine caught that a flight change would clash with a meeting request in a Slack thread I hadn’t read. It also dropped messages, tripped over permissions, and often couldn’t reach its browser.
- I wrote the review in Space, OpenAI’s new home for docs, slides, and spreadsheets. Edits show up faster than when an agent works in Google Docs, and you can tag your dot in a comment. Getting a team off Google or Notion will be harder.
- The Decisions API, OpenAI’s rival to Jev, split our testers. You give it context and a fixed set of answers, and it picks one. On senior editor Jack Cheng’s replay of computer tasks, it chose correctly on 76 of 78 steps (Jev: 73) in 230 milliseconds (Jev: 500). On Cora GM Kieran Klaassen’s thread-sorting test, the two tied on accuracy and Jev answered in about half the time. OpenAI hasn’t announced pricing.
- Your Plus or Pro plan now works in about 15 partner apps, including Devin, and that usage counts against your existing limits.
If you like new tools with rough edges, try dots now. Otherwise, give OpenAI a week or two to fix the paper cuts. If you’re happy with Grok Bots, Muse, or Instinct, stay put unless you already live in ChatGPT or Codex.
