Poon, FTN.2, & MAC 11 TDP
Are We Cool Yet? has been very prolific lately given the fresh release of the Scarab 2.0 and now with their big foray into non-firearm defense projects: The Poon! The gigantic rubber band powered action for this slingshot rifle can be constructed with minimal materials and is an excellent example of AWCY’s recent design stylings. This is not a truly innovative inclusion but there are many low hanging fruits in the defense space and it is great to see guncad exploring beyond their namesake.
An overwhelming number of popular projects fall under the heading of hybrid platform. This is describing a platform that combines traditional firearms components (or just hardware store parts) and additive manufacturing techniques like 3D printing. It is difficult to quickly design and refine a hybrid project if there is not a reliable total data package like with our next release: Mac 11 TDP. It has been a few weeks since any major suppressor project has been shown around DEFCAD but that changes today with the FTN.2 series of suppressors by Plaboi. Submachine Gun Designer’s Handbook
DEFCAD’s document library continues to grow every week and this time we have something different: The Submachine Gun Designer’s Handbook by George Dmitrieff. Most of the texts shared on DEFCAD tend to either be blueprints or treatises on the deep design considerations behind advanced firearm manufacturing, usually numbering in the hundreds of pages, but this text is much more approachable.
It very quickly details the necessary considerations for a design before describing various ammunition and example prints. Considering that most of the cutting edge in DIY defense seems to be making hybrid pistol caliber carbines, usually relying on SMG part kits, this document should be a great boon to those looking to have something about more applicable to reference in their designs.
